HS Spanish assignments

Tues. May 29–Study for oral part of final exam on Thurs.  We will continue working on pronouns if there are still questions.  If you have any questions about the final, please have them ready for class.  Special vocab for final exam: esconderse, acostarse, mostrar, ganar, perder, morder, mojarse, repartir, huir, esperar, llorar, asegurar, confesar, quedarse, ser, estar, ponerse, salir, desaparecer, cambiar, buscar.

Mon.  May 21–Do the worksheet on direct object pronouns and study your pret. spelling changes and irregular verbs for a quiz on Friday.  Remember that presentations should be around 6 min. long.

Wed. May 9: write a page in your Diario about Cinco de Mayo celebration in Mexico.  Sra. Martinez will be talking to you and showing you some pictures in class.  Ask her questions.  Also when you go to the computer room, ask her questions.  Start working on your country presentation: poster, pamphlet, power point.  Each presentation should be between 6-8 minutes long.  You need to learn the information for the presentation.  You may use notes.  You may also do it as a travel agency offering (pamphlet) for a trip to that country.  Talk a little about the history and some of the problems now a days.  Also about the interesting places to visit, things to eat…  You need to have pictures of these places.  All the countries have many beautiful things to see and do!!  You must list at least 3 different web sites you used for the information.  Presentations will start Mon. May 21, half the class, and Wed. May 23 the rest.  Your homework for Tues. is work on your project.

Thurs. May 3: Read p. 301 and answer 299.  Learn the irregular past tenses: p. G91 plus estar(G114), poner, querer, saber, traer(G124)  Quiz will be on WED. May 9.

Friday. April 27: Study for quiz on chapt. 17-20 for Thurs May 3.  During class for the next few lessons we will be working on Leccion 3 p. 290-301.  Irregular past tense verbs.

Wed. April 25:  Read Chapter 20 and answer questions.  Diario: Full page using past tense about your last week’s holiday.

Wed. April 4:  Chapter 17. Los Mariachis p. 271 finish reading.  Examencito on past tense of verbs: ir, ser, ver, hacer, dar and chapts. 13-16 La Gitanilla.  Diario for Wed. using past tense about your 3 day weekend. one page.

Fri. March 23: Chapter 14 read and answer questions.  We will be breaking another pinata for Yerin’s birthday on Tues.  We will meet in the gym at the beginning of class.  Then we will go to class.  Bring something to put your candy in.

Mon. March 19:  Study for the quiz on past tense and Chapt. 9-12.  Don’t forget to bring a bag of candies wrapped individually to put in the pinata for the 2nd graders to break.  The extra vocab. is: ladrar, morder, reconocer, acordarse, defenderse, un disfraz, el habito, la pierna, competencia, carreras.

Tues. March 13: Read below to know what we are doing.  Also study the preterit tense on p G83 and do the worksheet.  Learn the preterit tense!! The test on preterit and La Gitanilla 9-12 is Wed. 21.

Thurs. March 8:  Read Chapt 11 and answer the questions.  Answer the questions in FULL sentences, not just words.  Keep working on the past tense in your book.  We will be having a quiz on it shortly.  Tuesday’s homework will be to read Chapt 12 and questions for Monday.  We won’t discuss it in class on Thurs.  Those going to MRISA will need to hand in a Diario of a good page and a half on the tournament.  Try to use the past tense.  Students staying will write a page diario on their 3 day weekend using past tense.  We will be working on past tense in class on Thurs.  You will have a quiz on the past and Chapt 9-12 when we finish Chapt. 12 in La gitanilla.

Wed. Feb. 29.  We have finished reading Chapt 7.  Homework is read Chapt 8 and answer the questions.  You should have also finished your page in your Diario on Carnival, Cuaresma and Pascua.  Friday’s hmw.  will be to read Chapt 9 for Tues.  You will also have a quiz on Tues. over the Chapts. 5-8 and when to use reflexive verbs.  Vocabulary will also be an important part of the Gitanilla quiz.  Verbs: parecer, casarse, pedir permiso, regalar, encontrarse, refrescarse, meterse, despedirse, sentirse, subir, quedarse, mirarse, darse cuenta, repartir, saltar, olvidar, obedecer, ser fiel.  hijo unico, vecinos, carino, al cabo de, mientras tanto, aficionado, el pecho, martillo, garrote, salto, luego, cinta de seda, una vuelta, lujo

hurs. Feb. 23: Read Chapt. 5 and answer the questions.  Write a page in your Diario about the following words: Carnival, cuaresma, Pascua.  this is for Friday, March 2.

Tues. Feb 21: It is a 26 point quiz on chapt. 1-4 not an exam.  Besides questions about the chapters there is also a 6 point verb section on reflexive verbs.  Make sure you understand how to form them.  Look at G 110-111  about reflexive formation and use.  Read Chapt 5 and answer questions.

Look for Feb. 15 after Feb. 9th.

Thurs. Feb 9: We read chapt. 1 in La Gitanilla and answered questions.  Hmw. was to write a half page in your Diarios about the author: Cervantes.  Also you had 3 or 4 of the following section to do.  I am at home and don’t have my book with me.  We will be going over all of the grammar following the questions in class.  Make sure you have understood the first chapter and are up on all the vocabulary.

Wed. Feb 15: We answered the questions to Chapt. 2 in class.  Vocabulary for a quiz on Tues. Feb. 21.  If you have any questions come see me on Mon. not on Tues.  cumplir, ganar, tocar la pandereta, decir la buenaventura, oir, acercarse, gozar, ponerse (curioso, celoso)-to become curious, jealous, tirar, detenerse- conjugated like tener- me detengo- I detain myself, quedar, caer, recoger, perla, carbon, morena, cabello, oro, esmeralda, de veras, gracia, premio, de repente, mejor, campamento, encantado, belleza, el paje, pedacito de papel, bolsillo.   Homework: read Chapt. 3 and answer questions.  Do:#1, 2, 3, (6), 7.  For Tues. Feb 21 read Chapt 4 and answer questions.  Do. #7, 8.

Tues. Jan. 31:  study for quiz on lesson 1- restaurant vocab, stem changing verbs, tener expressions.  Start studying the past tense (preterit) tense.  Quiz on Thurs. Feb. 9.

Mon.  Jan 23:  Write half a page per day in your Diario about what you are doing/learning/liking/not liking about your trip.  When you finish, you should have 2 full pages, at least, of entries.

hurs. Jan 19: Memorize your skit part to present on Monday.  Don’t forget to sign the permission slips for going out to eat.  Please give them back to me on Friday or Monday at the latest.

Fri. Jan. 13: Write p. 249: L & N even numbers, M odd numbers. Learn tener expressions on p. 247.

Wed. Jan 11: start learning vocabulary and write a page in Diario about your vacation.

Mon. Jan. 9: Correct final exam.  Read p. 240-244. Answer A, p. 245.

Mon. Nov. 21: Read 5.9 in book p. G79-80.  Write p. G81-A, B, C.

Wed. Nov. 23: Do worksheet on verbs and indirect obj pronoun and review stem-changing verbs G71-72. (Tues. will be TEST on numbers, stem changing verbs and indirect obj pronouns, adjective agreement and clothes vocabulary)

Fri. Nov. 25: Study for test on Tues.  Diario will be due on Friday. Write a letter to a friend about what you will be doing/hope to be doing over the Christmas holidays.  Don’t forget to skip lines.  We only have 3 more classes until final exams.  Friday Dec. 2 we will be cooking bunuelos and working on pinatas.

Tues. Nov. 15:  Memorize skit.  Will have time in class on Thurs to practice.  Then present skits.  Correct quizzes.

Thurs, Nov. 17:  look on the internet about Christmas (Navidad) in Latin America.  Look up Las Posadas.  Write a journal about Las Posadas.  We will be discussing it in class on Monday.

Wed. Nov. 9:  Diario and finish writing oral skit on going shopping with Mom.  You will have time to practice on Fri and Tues.  Skit will be presented to class MEMORIZED on Thurs.  About 4-5 minutes: at least 6 lines each using this units vocabulary.  25 points

Mon. Nov. 7: study for maybe quiz on numbers, colors, clothes and verbs: gustar, pensar, querer, preferir, poder, costar.  Friday’s Diario is about “Por que Tailandia tiene inundaciones?”  one page, skipping spaces.

Thurs. MRISA students need to hand in their 10-15 questions for Sra. Martinez and need to write a Diario on their VB tournament.  Hmw.: p. 230 D and E.

Tues Nov. 1: Look at 1 or 2 you tube sites about El Dia de Todos Santos and El Dia de los Muertos.  Know the difference between the two.  Read in your text book p 222-227 and understand it.  Look at p. 228 about he colors and clothes.

Wed. Oct. 26: In the art room, your sub. is Sra. Martinez (always use Ud. with her).  Bring things to decorate your skull with: sequins, ear rings, feathers, aluminum foil, etc.  Stick them on with the frosting you will be making in class.  If your skull is a bit broken, try to mend it with the frosting.  There are 4 extras anyone may decorate.  You need to write 10-15 good questions for an interview with Sra. Martinez.  Get a partner and 2 at a time will interview her.  She will be 4 different people and you are writing a newspaper article about her.  You need to make sure you know why she is in Thailand!!  NEVER use the “tu” form.  Your homework on Friday for Tuesday is to write up the newspaper article about the person Sra. Martinez is.  NO ENGLISH!!

Thurs. Oct. 13.  If you have time over the break, look at p. G83 about the preterite tense.  We have been using it in class and this might help you get used to it.  Your Diario for Wed. will be to look up interesting information on el Dia de los Muertos and write a good long paragraph about what you found.  Read about it in a few different sites, take a few notes, close the sites and then write an article.  DO NOT just translate the article from English to Spanish.  Try to read about some of it in Spanish instead of English.  Write a paragraph, not a bunch of sentences.  Write at least 15 sentences.

Wed, Oct. 5:  Learn the conjugations in present tense for “dar, salir and saber”. Besides the diario that I told you about in the Monday homework assignment, please look at the following website: Mexicansugarskull.com  It shows you all about the skulls made for the Day of the Dead.  Click on some of the squares at the bottom of the page to find out about some of the beautiful things they make for the Day of the Dead.  We will be making a skull in class besides talking about the Day of the Dead.

Mon. Oct. 3: Study for your quiz on ‘tu positive commands” and vocabulary I gave you on the board and on pgs: 206-207 and 213.  Also, reread “El Paseo” on p. 221.  Make sure you understand it.  No Diario for this week.  Your next one will be for Tues. Oct. 11.  You will write a paragraph (at least 12 sentences) about what you are GOING to do during the 10 day break.  If you don’t know, make something up about what you would like to do.

Tues. Sept. 27: Think of a famous person (that everyone in class would know) who you would like to be.  You may be dead or alive.  Write a paragraph, about 10-15 sentences, about yourself in the present tense.  You will use this later in class for an oral interview of you for a news program on TV.  Also, Diario-instructions are written in Friday’s hmw.

Friday Sept. 23: Read again p. G56-57 and write c. Also write one question using each question word.  You will write 9 questions.  You will use them in class to ask another student.   Read G12-13 & write c. Read p.G22 & write c.  Your next diario will be for Thurs. Sept. 30.  Write a paragraph, about 12 sentences, about your best friend.  Use adjectives and these verbs: tener que, ir a, querer, gustar, ser, estar

Wed. Sept. 21:  Read p208-210 and answer p. 211 A.

on. Sept 12:  Work on skit/oral presentation, diario(due on Wed): write a paragraph of at least 12 sentences about what you are going to do (ir + a + infinitive) and/or want to do (querer+ infinitive) during the 3 day break.

Thurs., Sept. 8: Work on your skit/oral presentation to class on Wed.  You will have a quiz over the present progressive tense (estar + present participle (-ando, -iendo)) (I am singing, you are dancing), and “gustar”.  Make sure you study.  The BIG exam over all this review will be Wed. 21.

Tues., Sept. 6:  Diario and homework: write a conversation of at least 15 sentences/questions if 3 people and at least (better if 15!) 10 sentences/questions if 2 people introducing yourself or another person to a friend.  Don’t forget accents and upside down question marks.  You can use this as your oral presentation on Wed. or not.  It doesn’t have to be the same.  Get together and start practicing your skit which will be presented memorized to class on Wed. the 14th.

Fri. Sept. 2: Review pG56-question words, pG70-71, write 71 b.  Do worksheet.

Wed. Aug 31: Review G62-63 present progressive tense, Write G 63 a and b #1-6. Don’t forget family descriptions in your Diario.

Thurs, Aug. 25: Review G 36-37.  Write 1-5 of G37-a,b,c,ch,d

Mon. Aug. 29: Write 3 sentences using a different person for the following verbs: tener, querer, ir a, venir, conocer.  You will have a quiz over these irregular verbs.

Tues, Aug. 23–Review G 52 &54. (Maybe a quiz on regular verb endings.  Diario: Write 5 sentences using “ir a + infinitive” and 5 sentences using “querer + infinitive”.  For each sentence use a different person so you will use all 5 conjugations of each verb.

Hmw. Mon. Aug. 15: Review G:24,25,26,38,39.  Write 8 questions to ask a classmate during next class. Diario: due on Friday. Skip spaces.  Write 10 sentences about yourself.  Use different verbs in each sentence.

Wed. Aug. 17- Answer the questions from the homework of the student’s paper you received.  Write directly on the homework paper from that student.  Don’t forget your diario of 10 sentences double spaced.

Fri. Aug. 19-Review–G 28-31, 42, 56.  Write p. G43 Ex. ch and p. G58 Ex. ch and d.
