Tues. May 29–Write a short summary paragraph of the 6 short stories you have read this semester: El Axolotl, La Intrusa, El Sur, La Noche Boca Arriba, No Oyes Ladrar los Perros, Diles que no Me Maten! You should know the author and where he is from. Any questions about the final exam need to be asked in our last class before the final exam.
MON. May 21–Besides reading the next article p. 18 and doing the written work on the article, don’t forget to listen to the interview on CNN.com in Spanish. You MIGHT have a little quiz on it.
Tues. May 15: Your decision on which candidate to vote for and support that decision. 150-200 words. It doesn’t matter who you were or interviewed. You can vote for either person. Look at the facts and base your position on facts. Formal paper worth 10 points.
Wed. May 9: In class you are preparing a TV program where 2 people are interviewing a candidate for the Mexican presidency. Estefania is Josefina Vasquez Mota (PAN) and Aaron and Paulo are interviewing her. Carlos is being interviewed by Marcelo and Mook. You must look up information about the candidate, what are that person’s qualifications, abilities, ideas about certain very important problems in Mexico. Both students will be asking questions and commenting on what the candidate is saying. Each presentation should last about 10 minutes. You may have notes but DO NOT read everything. Have one student do an introduction of the candidate and the other student do a conclusion. This will be presented the last half hour of class on Tues. You will have about 45 min. (after news) to work on it in class. It is your last big oral presentation and it is worth 30 points. Homework on Tues for Wed. will be to decide which candidate you will vote for and why. You will write a 150-200 word paper on who and why. Make sure you include the candidates position and ideas about major problems in Mexico: seguridad, narcotraficantes, corrupcion, educacion, empleo, pobreza….

Thurs. May 3: Read Cuando se iran de casa and do the written work on the next 2 pages about the article. IMPT. NEWS!!
Friday. April 27: Read Como fomentar la relacion… Do p. 9 related to the reading. Write a 2 paragraph short essay on El Compadrazgo. One paragraph should be explaining what it is and the other should talk about the importance of it in Latin America. It should be between 200-250 words. Turn it in to Turnitin.com by Tues. 8:15 am.
Wed. April 25: finish reading and answering the questions to the story Diles Que no me Maten. Quiz. Noticias and Learner Profile in class.
Wed. April 4: final draft of environmental disaster was finished and you will have your oral presentation on Monday. The written script of the oral must be on turnitin.com. I have corrected the ones handed in today. Please make sure these are corrected by Wed., April 11 before class time.
Fri. March 23: I will not accept any more corrections to your animal change story. I will accept late endings to La Noche Boca Arriba on Tues at the latest. The latest date for any corrections will be when we get back from the 4 day break on Monday. The next project will be done in pairs: Mook & Estefania, Marcelo & Aaron, Carlos & Paulo. You will need to decide on an environmental disaster that has already happened. One person will be asking questions about this disaster and the effects it had on the environment and what has been done about it and if it was enough or what more needs to be done. The other person is an environmentalist and will be answering the questions. It will need to be written out and handed in on turnitin.com and then you will be presenting this to the class. It is like a television documentary on this environmental disaster. You will need to have pictures of the disaster -good idea to show before the disaster, the disaster and the “clean up” or end product. The presentation should take between 5-7 minutes. The grade given will be for both of you. Both of you should be doing research on the project. You need to have decided on the disaster and have pictures and at least 5 questions and answers done for class on Monday after the break. You need to turn these in to turnitin.com You will have 45 minutes on Monday in the lab to work together on the project. Finished written paper turned in on Wed. You will have the class period on Wed. to correct any of it and work together on the presentation. You will have 2 grades: one for the written project (30 pts) and oral presentation (20 pts). The content for the oral presentation will be graded in the written project. Oral presentation will be in class on Monday April 9.
Mon. March 19: The final draft of your ending for La Noche Boca Arriba is due in class on Wed. Turnitin.com 300-350 words. Some of your endings are short and need to be redone. I read the 3 sent in and they each have several errors. Please reread them and correct them for Wed. We will be starting in the other book on Wed. with WATER.
Thurs. March 8: Finish reading the story of La Noche Boca Arriba and answer questions 1-10. Look at Turn it in.com and make the revisions necessary by the date it says. Scroll down.
Tues. March 13: You are going to write a different ending to the story. You need to understand the story very well to continue it in the same way. You will start your ending on p. 96 towards the end of the page after the sentence: “Con una ultima esperanza apreto los parpados, gimiendo por despertar.”—- It will be worth 30 points. 10 pts grammar, 10 pts. content (understanding the story before and continuing it in the same way) 10 pts. organization300-350 words. You will submit the first draft to Turnitin.com. by Thurs. 15th at 8 am. The revision of your animal story is due by Sunday night.
Wed. Feb. 29: Finish your first draft of your story about changing into an animal. Make sure you have an interesting start so a person would want to continue reading your stories. You will be exchanging your stories with another person in class to read and comment on. You will need to include a pictue of your animal at the beginning of your story. Story is between 500-600 words. It will be worth 30 points. 10 points grammar, 10 points organization (good beginning and ending and the changing steps make sense), 10 vocabulary and information. You will have to send it to me in class on Monday. We continue having current events each day. I turn grades in for you on Tues. I must have your finished story in class on Tues. This is part of 3rd quarter grade. We will then start to read the next story: La Noche Boca Arriba.
on. Feb. 27: You will now be writing your own story about changing into another animal. The story will be between 500-600 words long. Be thinking about this. More information on Mon.
Thurs. Feb. 23: Read the short story Axolotl by Cortazar. Answer the questions to this story. Hand in corrections to your essay on an endangered animal this week if you want to improve your grade.
Wed. Feb. 15: Handed in 3rd draft of endangered species paper. work on oral presentation of paper to class for Tues. Feb 21.
Thurs. Feb. 9: Read the hmw. below (Fri. Feb. 3) and don’t forget the vocab quiz on Mon. Some of the vocab is also from the article I gave you to read in class. You should be using the vocab in your papers. Make sure you understood the article we read in class also. Some vocab has to do with the article.
Fri. Feb. 3: Endangered animal paper: 250-350 words. Must use at lease 3 internet sites and you must site these in your paper. 30 pts hand written paper and 24 pts. oral presentation. First draft of paper due on Thurs. Feb. 8. You will go over it with someone in class and use turnitin.com to check for any plagerism problems. 2nd draft due Mon. Feb. 13. There will also be a vocabulary quiz from vocab on the Wolf and bear articles. Hand in written paper on Wed. Feb. 15. Oral presentations will be on Tues. Feb. 21.
Tues. Jan. 31: Finish reading the article about wolves and answer A & B in Spanish -p. 127-128. Noticias!! Pick an animal that is endangered. Where does that animal live and why is it in danger of extinction-what is the reason that it is dying off? You will be writing a paper on this animal and will be giving an oral report in class on it. You will need to answer questions about what is being done about trying to save this animal, is it important to save it and why, what needs to be done to save this animal and is it possible, why is it endangered, anything else you find in your research of interest about this animal. The final written report will be handed in on Wed. Feb. 15 and the oral presentations will be on Tues. Feb. 21. You will have a vocabulary quiz on Thurs. Feb 9.
Mon. Jan 23: Write at least half a page in your Diario (notebook) per day of your trip. Write about what your are doing/learning/liking/not liking…etc. You should have 2 full pages, at least, when you come back from your trip. ALSO, fill in your IB learner or you will be staying after school to do it!!
Thurs. Jan 19: Read and answer the questions about the article you have. Write in your Diario about the news. You do not get credit if you read it on your computer during class. Look at what is happening in Northern Mexico.
Fri. Jan 13: Read El Sur p. 41-44 and answer preguntas 1-7.
Wed. Jan 11: News and read about Argentina gauchos in literature. You will be writing something in class about gauchos.
Mon. Jan. 9: read about Jorge Luis Borges and read the short story La Intrusa. Answer the questions at the end of the story. Impt. News. Bring to class your homework of the Learner Profile.
Mon. Nov. 21: finish writing papers with the conclusion. and look at NEWS. Finish sentences with imperfect subjunctive and conditional.
Wed. Nov. 23:. Final draft of paper. Handed in HAND WRITTEN beginning of class on Friday. The paper is worth 30 points and must be between 300-500 words long. `Do G. 104-105 in preparation for quiz on Friday. Quiz changed to Tues. Make SURE you study the irregular conditional and subjunctive forms. They are on the quiz.
Friday, Nov. 25: after quiz, you will have time to work on your oral presentation to the class that will be done on Tue. Nov. 29. It will be worth 24 points according to the presentation rubric handed out. We now have only 3 more class periods before final exams.
Tues, Nov. 15: Always look at the news to bring something to class to discuss about the news in Latin America. Finish your introduction to Environmental paper and make sure those who did not have a written letter, have it ready for Thurs. Thurs.we will look at each others intros and you will help eachother on them. You will have time to start your three paragraphs for the body of the paper which need to be written for Monday. Your Diario is written about some news.
Fri. Nov. 11 hmw: Investigate your environmental problem and look for 3 areas of problems and probable solutions. Start to write your introduction to the paper. In class on Monday, you will have time to work on this paper. First draft will be due on Thurs. Nov. 17.. Write a letter from either p. 121 D or p. 127 B. Formal letter. 150-200 words. Hand written to hand in.
Nov. 7 hmw: Read text Ponte Al Dia p. 118-121 do p. 120 A and 121 B. Choose what you are going do your research paper on the environment.
Nov. 9 hmw: Write in your Diario notebook a page, skipping lines, about an IMPT news article from a Spanish newspaper. Choose from: Guatamala presidential election, Nicaragua presidential election or Colombian Farc leader killed. Name your source. Also Investigate your environmental problem and look for 3 areas of problems and probable solutions. Start to write your introduction to the paper. In class on Friday, you will have time to work on this paper. First draft will be due on Thurs. Nov. 17..
